One of the biggest fears of new and experienced Amazon sellers is receiving an account suspension letter. It is as if you've hit a brick wall, questioning yourself where you went wrong. Then you start your frenzy search on how to open Amazon account after suspension. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as sending a request to customer service to reopen your account or clicking a button to reactivate it. In the case, it is not a "request.", but an "appeal."

Three phases of account suspension

At this stage, you can still plead your case and send an Amazon suspension appeal. Amazon has three levels of account suspension as follows:

  • Suspension = this is when you receive a notification with a subject: "Your Amazon.com selling privileges have been removed." Don't worry because there's still hope in reinstating your account by sending an appeal letter.
  • Denied = if you received this notification, it means Amazon denied your appeal. Can you send another one? Sadly, it is not possible.
  • Banned = at this point, Amazon permanently kicks you out of the marketplace with no chances of creating a new account ever again. It is due to repetitive appeals or forceful emails that only worsen the situation.

Thus, your only chance on how to open an Amazon account after a suspension is at the suspension stage. Remember that you only have one shot at appealing your case. The moment you mess this up, you're not allowed to sell on Amazon ever again

The curious case of opening another account

Can I open a new account instead? This is not a good idea.  Even an Amazon suspension expert will refuse to handle your request to open another account, it’s too risky. Within Amazon's Seller Code of Conduct, "you may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region you sell." Others say that you could do so with a legitimate business justification like you own different brands with separate businesses for each or Amazon recruits you in a program where you're required to open multiple accounts. But it is better to be safe than forever be banned.

How to open Amazon account after suspension the RIGHT way

Now that you know the three stages of grief--err--suspension and you can't--for whatsoever reason--open a new account, what is the next course of action? Write a formal appeal. Yup, this one's unavoidable, or you could witness your business going down the drain. If you're not confident enough to compose it, ask help from an Amazon suspension expert. However, here are the basics of creating an Amazon suspension appeal:

Keep calm and don't rush it.

Of course, it is hard to remain calm right now. We understand your resentment, and it's natural to lose your cool in this type of situation. But it wouldn't help you if you lash out on social media or threaten Seller Performance. Take responsibility and acknowledge the problem. Don't play the blame game. Remember that this is your only chance to reinstate your account, so keeping calm, cool, and level headed is the best way to approach this situation.

Check and resolve pending support tickets.

Do a brief "spring cleaning" first. Resolve any pending tickets and try if there's a way to improve the health of your account. You don't want Amazon to doubt your worth as a seller once they start reviewing your appeal, and your account.

Find out why your suspended.

Here are the most common reasons for an Amazon seller account suspension:

Poor performance metrics. You can check this out at the Account Health page. Keep in mind that you should meet and maintain the following performance targets:

  • Order defect rate: < 1%
  • Pre-fulfillment cancel rate: < 2.5%
  • Late shipment rate: < 4%

Violating Amazon policies. It is either you're selling a prohibited product or disobeyed Amazon's Seller Code of Conduct.

Subpar customer communication. Amazon is a customer-centric company, and by ignoring their most valuable asset is not a good idea.

Create a POA or Plan of Action.

Answer the following questions when composing a POA:

  • What is the root cause of the issue?
  • What are your actions to address the issue?
  • How can you prevent this from happening again.

Submit your letter of appeal to Amazon.

After writing the suspension appeal letter, send it to Seller Performance for review. Where do you send it? Open the account suspension notification that you received from them. Click the "Appeal decision" button at the bottom of the letter. Enter all essential details in the form, review it carefully, and hit "Submit Appeal."

Wait for a reply.

Sad to say, you won’t receive a reply right away. Usually, it takes up to 48 hours for Amazon to revert their decision, but let's be realistic, you're not the only one they're attending. How many sellers are there on Amazon again? And, don't be tempted to send multiple letters or status requests, it will not make the appeal process run faster, unfortunately..

Receive a response from Amazon.

You will receive a reply via email. Hopefully, it is the one you wish for.

In conclusion, Amazon only wants the best for its customers, and it's your job as a seller to provide exceptional service that exceeds customer expectations. You can avoid this unfortunate scenario if you read Amazon's Seller Code of Conduct and regularly monitor your account health. In doing so, you will not experience googling "how to open Amazon account after suspension."
